Columbia CSL has many opportunities for volunteers to contribute – we invite you to join one of our teams!
Serving is a sacred and spiritual practice. By volunteering on one of our many teams, you serve the community and yourself. It’s a way to meaningfully connect with others, deepen your personal relationships and circulate love and care throughout our entire community. We know that as we give our time and talents in sacred service, we pay it forward all that we have been given.
Sunday Service Teams
Hospitality Team
Our Hospitality volunteers set out coffee, tea, and delicious snacks for our in-person services. Volunteers are asked to arrive early to set up the table and stay a little later while members linger and enjoy the goodies. If this is an area of Sacred Service that feeds your soul, we would love to have you on the Team! Contact Laura Service.
Live Stream / Visual Team
If you’re technically savvy or willing to learn, we could use your help! A member of our Live Stream / Visual Team sets up and runs our Live Stream while another Team member sets up and runs our camera and PowerPoint projection system that displays for in-person services. Contact Don Henderson.
Presiders*
If you’re really comfortable as a speaker both on screen and at a podium, consider our Presiders Team. Presiders lead the flow of the service, using a script provided by our Operations Team. This role is great for people who have some speaking experience, have been coming to services for a while, and have a good sense of our order of service (a good sense of humor helps, also!) Contact Julia Mattis
Readers*
Do you like to read in front of a group? Our volunteer Readers, set the tone for our Spiritual Practice time and typically serve once or twice a quarter. The readings are provided well in advance so you can practice and be comfortable with this Sacred Service! Contact Donald Lewis.
Social Media Team*
If you are social media savvy, sign up to help us with promotions and our Sunday Service engagement! Contact Julia Mattis.
Welcome Team
If you like to greet people and share your smile, then this is the team for you! The Welcome Team greets our community at the door, directs people to our welcome and information tables, and also serve as ushers, helping with seating and weekly offertory. For more details and to sign up, contact Tom Kapp.
*Presider, Reader, and Social Media volunteers must be Columbia CSL members in good standing.

Special Events
We frequently have visitors on Sunday, and our Guest Ambassador is there to welcome them, answer any questions they have, and provide a personal point of contact for them as they get to know the community. This is a new team and is focused completely on making sure that our visitors feel welcome here. Volunteers are asked to arrive by 9:30 am, and to stay after service as long as there are visitors to talk to!
If you don’t feel able to commit to an ongoing role but would like to help out periodically, we can add you to our list of volunteers for special events and outreach activities. When we have an event and need some helping hands, we will get in touch with you and see if you are interested and available. Contact Rev. Rafe.
