“Power of Prayer” by Reggie Kapp

In this teaching, we believe that prayer is a confirmation and acceptance of the Truth – not the truth of a condition, necessarily, but a Spiritual Truth.  A Spiritual Truth such as “God is all there is” and “I am One with that Divine Presence” and “There is a power for good and we can use it.”

The Founder of Science of Mind, Dr. Ernest Holmes says, “Prayer is a thought, a belief, a feeling, arising within the mind of the one praying. When prayer removes distrust and doubt and enters the field of mental certainty, it becomes faith; and the universe is built on faith.”

We believe, “There is nothing to be healed, only Truth to be revealed.”  We do not deny the circumstance, we merely deny power to it.  And we are powerful beyond imagination!

Recently, a friend was admitted to the hospital after becoming very ill.  Each day brought new symptoms until he was, dare I say, deathly ill.  His wife reached out in desperation to many friends asking for prayer support, each one of us praying in our own way.   The  very next morning we received a message of gratitude with words like “miracle” and “the power of Life force.” This couple is feeling the miraculous power of collective prayer – the condition changed and while he didn’t completely heal overnight, the prognosis was much better and they have been given the belief that complete healing is absolutely possible!

We believe in the power of affirmative prayer when we affirm Spiritual Truths.  Affirmative prayer is not a request, it’s not wishful thinking, it’s not beseeching, not a plea, not a barter (if you only you’ll grant me this request, I’ll change my ways, quit my habits, do 40 Hail Mary’s, etc.) Affirmative Prayer is a knowing, a belief, a statement of conviction and acceptance. “I am that which God Is.” “Love is Infinite and Eternal.” “I am Perfect, Whole, Complete.”

Affirmative prayer needs practice (unless it doesn’t.) Many of us have been or are currently in Prayer Circles – that’s a great way to practice. Getting together with like-minded people and praying can be absolutely transformative!

If someone asks you to pray, start with the basics: there’s only One Power in the Universe; we are One with this Power and this Truth is the Truth for one and all alike.

Then state your prayer – declare the Spiritual Truth such as:

  • The Universe is abundant and we are abundant by Divine Inheritance;
  • There is an infinite supply of Love and an unlimited potential for Good available to us;
  • Since we are One with God and God is Perfect, then we are Perfect, Whole Complete.

Speak in the present tense, as if it were already true, because it is!  The only thing left to do is to be grateful and let go, to let the Law of the Universe conspire for our good!

Can we pray for ourselves? Of course, we can.  Can we pray for someone else when they can’t know the Truth for themselves?  Yes, without a doubt!  Some of the most powerful prayers I’ve received weren’t even from Licensed Practitioners!  Kimberly Akers said, “If you can speak words of love, you can pray!”  So, reach out to a minister, practitioner or someone in this teaching that can know the Truth with you and for you, even when you can’t know the Truth for yourself!
